MOKORU

by John Sarmiento

Ink on 6 x 8” 350# mixed media card stock. Mailed in a flat mailer between two sheets of cardboard.

Influenced by a recent binge of The Dead Lands series, the art of tā moko, and koru (Amaumau fern). The moko in this piece does not represent any ties to whakapapa, but is an example of kirituhi (skin art). The koru can represent: new life, new beginnings, progress, or even loved ones.
